The leader of the Mosaic team, Marc Andreessen, then left and co-founded Netscape Communications Corporation with Silicon Graphics founder Jim Clark. Their product — Netscape Navigator — launched in October 1994 and captured 75% of the browser market within four months. It was fast, user-friendly, and free for non-commercial use. For millions of people, Netscape Navigator was the internet.

Then Microsoft noticed.
